Hi! I’m Meade, and I’m happy that I am getting to share my story with you!
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia (LPC009545) and also a Nationally Certified Counselor. I earned my Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mercer University in 2012.
During grad school, I completed my internship at The Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders, and I continue to work there part-time doing individual and group therapy. I am also working in private practice at The Brookhaven Center for Counseling and Wellness.
After recovering from my own struggle with an eating disorder, and also battling ongoing issues with anxiety and depression, it became clear to me that, through all of the work I had done in my own recovery, I had a desire to use what I had learned to help others. I knew that I had to give meaning to my struggle. In the words of psychologist Viktor Frankl, “If there is meaning in life at all, then there must be meaning in suffering.”
I consider it a gift to work with each and every person that I have been or will be given the privilege to work with. I work from a person-centered perspective, meaning that I believe everyone has the capacity to guide their own path toward growth and change. I also believe that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important components for change, and I offer a genuine, empathic, and non-judgmental space for clients to explore their goals for their lives and embark on that journey. I believe in meeting people where they are in their process. As psychologist (and founder of person-centered therapy) Carl Rogers famously stated, “the curious paradox is that when I can accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
I utilize an integrative theoretical approach to therapy depending on the client’s needs, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, existential therapy, interpersonal and psychodynamic therapy.
